Live: 1916 Commemoration

1916

The town of Claremorris will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising on Easter Sunday, March 27th.

The event, which starts at 12 noon, will feature a reading of the proclamation, recitals of poetry, the laying of a wreath at the town’s memorial and the inaugural performance of a play, ‘A Great Consolation’ by John Corless.

CCR will broadcast this event on Sunday.  We will be on air, live from the Square with host Johnny Kirrane, from 12 noon until 2pm.

Locally-created drama series

Radio dramaAirplay, a two part series featuring six radio plays written and recorded here in Claremorris begins this Friday.   This series showcases local talent in our town and features dramas developed during a playwriting workshop, led by John Corless.

Airplay set 1 will broadcast on Friday, 4 March, at 7 pm and repeated on Monday, 7 March at 7 pm.  It will feature:

  • Hearsay tackles small town gossips.
  • No Ram for the Old Man looks at a family struggling with old-age dementia.
  • Fitting In + Falling Out reveals a student vet with a most unusual approach to animal care.

Airplay set 2 will broadcast on Friday, 11 March, at 7 pm and be repeated on Monday, 14 March, at 7 pm.  It will feature:

  • Pillow Talk gives us a bitter drama of a father and son who can’t live together and the girlfriend who wants to drive them apart.
  • Any Other Business takes an ironic view of small town Tidy Towns committees.
  • Man: On the Quiet casts a comic eye on a hilltop romance between a Dublin cityboy and his outdoorsy fiancée.
