Presentation to Residents of Sligo Direct Provision

On Wednesday, Claremorris Community Radio chairperson Pat Keane and trainer John Nolan travelled to Sligo to present certificates to the students who completed our QQI Level 3 course in Media Expression last Summer.

10 students completed the course, during the months of June and July. Lessons took place in the Avalon Centre and at the studios of Claremorris Community Radio.

Claremorris Community Radio congratulates all the students who completed the course. They are: Austin Mukungu, Lamin Kamara, Fahmida Begum, Mahboob Khan, Kondwani Ngwira, Abiola Oyerinde, Loveth Oyiboka, Alieu Manoh Sesay, Nasteh Sugulle and Zaki Ahmed.

As always, the students completed a radio programme as part of their submitted work during the course. If you missed the broadcast of this show, it is now available on our online archive at www.mixcloud.com/claremorrisfm/around-the-globe-house-life-in-direct-provision-in-sligo/

Claremorris Community Radio would like to thank Sligo Leader Partnership, Bridgestock Ltd. and the Avalon Centre for their assistance and cooperation in the running of this course.

Annual street collection

Our radio station is a not-for-profit organisation, which has to constantly raise funds to pay the bills and keep our programmes on air.

One of our most important fundraisers is our annual street collection which is taking place today and tomorrow (July 19th and 20th). If you are about the town on either day, and see one of our official collectors, please do your best to support us!

Collectors are stationed at Supervalu, the post office and in the Silverbridge shopping centre today. Tomorrow they will return to Supervalu and to the post office. The collectors themselves are also station members so, if you have any questions on the station etc., please feel free to stop and have a chat with them about it.

Thanks, as always, for your continued support.

Local election coverage

On Saturday afternoon, Claremorris Community Radio will cover the count of the votes in the 2019 Local Elections.

At 2pm, Micheál McLoughlin and Bridie Sheeran will be joined by Billy Fitzpatrick and Ann Macken for a 1-hour discussion programme on the recent election campaign and what issues those who are elected will have to face.

The show will also feature live reports from Anthony McNicholas, who will be at the count centre in the Castlebar.

At 3pm Dolores Keaveney will step in, to host her weekly Afternoon Delight show. Whilst this will feature Dolores’s usual selection of music and information, she will also be hearing from Anthony, should any breaking news take place at the count.
