Claremorris Community Radio is continuing its marking of the anniversary of the Butte Mining Disaster in 1917, in which 168 miners lost their lives, including Claremorris man Michael Conroy and his close friend Peter Sheridan.
On Friday, June 8th, at 4pm the station will broadcast No Greater Love – The Butte Montana Mining Disaster. This is a musical drama commemorating the tragic events of that time.
The 6,800-kilometre Ripple Effect, from a Traumatic Disaster will be aired on Claremorris Community Radio on Monday next, May 7th, at 6pm. It will also be repeated on May 11th at 1pm.
This programme celebrates the heroic sacrifice, made by Michael Conroy and his close friend Peter Sherridan, who gave their lives in attempt to rescue stranded miners in the Spectator Granite Mountain Mine Disaster, in which 168 men perished.
Michael was born in Murneen, Claremorris and Peter hailed from Co Monaghan. Their story is told by family and friends who celebrated this great event with a service of remembrance in Michael Conroy’s native parish church. Continue reading The Ripple Effect…→
