Two Claremorris Community Radio shows received CRAOL awards at this year’s CRAOL Féile, which took place in Athlone over the last weekend.
The live Sunday evening Sports Talk show received a silver award in the Volunteer Team category. In their citation the judges stated that Sports Talk is “a must listen for all GAA fans. The presenters work well together and have great understanding and knowledge of the game that they impart to listeners.” Congratulations to Austin, Billy, John and their other contributors on this well-earned accolade!
Congratulations also to Bernard Joyce, whose solo music show Smooth n’ Easy received a bronze award in the Social Benefit category. The judges were impressed with Smooth n’ Easy and the atmosphere that Bernard creates. They said it is “a chilled vintage music show with thorough research and great information about all the tracks”, before adding that is a “thoroughly enjoyable show.”
Well done to all involved in the production of these high quality shows. Sports Talk is broadcast live at 7pm on Sunday evenings and repeated on Mondays, also at 7pm. Smooth n’ Easy is broadcast on Sunday nights at 8pm and repeated Fridays at 5pm.
Two CCR programmes were winners at the annual CRAOL radio achievement awards on Friday last!
A Tribute to Gordon, a special one-off show aired last December in honour of our late colleague Gordon Campbell was the Distinction winner in ‘Special Programming’, one of this year’s four categories. This live two hour show, featuring a host of our volunteers and staff members alongside a selection of Gordon’s favourite music, was aired on the morning of Saturday, December 13th. You can listen to the show here.
The station won a second Distinction in the ‘Music Programme’ category where Sebastian Wlodarczyk’s Mayo Grammy was one of just two winners. This show, which airs on Thursdays at 7pm (repeated Wednesdays at 1pm) is our first Polish language show. Each week Sebastian presents a selection of Polish and European music along with the latest news from the Polish community in Mayo. You can listen to a selection of Sebastian’s old shows on our mixcloud service.
Originally included in a long list of 15 podcasts, After the Fact survived a process which saw a shortlist of 10 being kept initially before a further selection saw just six podcasts reach the final.
After the Fact is broadcast each Thursday night at 7pm and features John Nolan as quizmaster, asking questions to team captains Andrew Newman and Lorraine Murphy and their ever-changing list of team-mates. If you’d like to listen to the show’s podcast, you can subscribe to in on iTunes, Feedburner or just listen back on the station’s account on mixcloud.com.
