The Comparative Arts Programme

film-studiesA new multimedia project begins on Claremorris Community Radio tonight. The Comparative Arts Programme, presented by John Farragher, will be the first in a series of shows which are part of a wider multimedia project taking place in Claremorris this Autumn.

Claremorris Book Club, Claremorris Film Society and CCR will all be linked for the next three months, with a series of events based around a selection of famous works of literature and their film adaptations.

Throughout September, October and November To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, The Grapes of Wrath and A Christmas Carol will be the subjects of film screenings, book club readings and discussions and a series of radio shows.

The first of those will be broadcast tonight. It is entitled ‘The value of literature’ and features extracts of a talk by Arnold Weinstein, an academic and expert on the value of literature.

The Comparative Arts Programme will be broadcast at 8pm on the second and third Wednesdays of the next four months. For more info, please visit www.nonprophetfestival.eu

At the Crossroads

CrossroadsThis week sees the start of a new arts show on CCR. At the Crossroads with Anni Wilton-Jones aims to cover all aspects of the arts, focusing on the vibrant Arts scene in County Mayo. News of future events and competitions, interviews and readings with local writers and artists, music with a local flavour and the occasional dip into Mayo’s arts history are all features that the programme can offer.

The crossroads is a traditional place for music and dance and At the Crossroads is a four-cross where Visual Art, Drama, Creative Writing and Music meet.

The first programme in the series, on the theme “Mayo – God Help Us”, gives a flavour of the vibrant Arts scene in Claremorris and the rest of County Mayo – local music, local events and exhibitions, competitions and some poetry.

If you’d like to get in touch with Anni, please get in touch on at.the.crossroads@outlook.com. Anni invites everyone to tell her about arts events and news that you would like to have mentioned in future shows.

At the Crossroads will be broadcast at 7pm on Wednesday, September 16th.
