Live Lounge launched

Claremorris Community Radio’s new Live Lounge was today launched by Dolores Keaveney, station chairperson, and Breda Murray of South West Mayo Development.

The former studio 2 is now a multi-use room, catering for live music recording/broadcasting alongside regular day time use as a training room, both for members and for external students.

Dolores Keaveney thanked the staff and members of the station who contributed to the rearrangement of the station’s facilities. She thanked South West Mayo Development for their continued support and also thanked Eddie Sweeney Financial, who are the official sponsors of the new Live Lounge.

Breda Murray congratulated all involved in the development of the new space. She recognised that the courses now being offered by CRR will offer people in the locality with an opportunity to learn and progress into employment in media.

The ladies then cut a seasonal ribbon to declare the Live Lounge open for business!

2014 AGM on November 26th

The Claremorris Community Radio AGM will be held at the radio station in the Town Hall, Claremorris on Wednesday 26th November 2014, starting at 8.00pm. Elections to the board will take place at the AGM.

To ensure that the station truly reflects the community, half of the station’s Board of Directors (which is made up of up to 14 people) must represent clubs and organizations in our area and half must represent volunteers. There are approximately five board meetings throughout the year, lasting about an hour-and-a-half each and the demands are not great. The role of the board is to ensure that the station is meeting the needs of the community it serves.

In participating in the governance of the station, you can have a real input into the future direction of the organisation and, as a community-run not-for-profit group, we strongly feel that volunteer participation in the governance of the station is hugely important.

In order to be considered for a position on the Claremorris Community Radio board of Directors, or to be able to vote for volunteer representatives to be co-opted onto the Board, volunteers must be full members of Claremorris Community Radio. Being a full member means that you have regularly contributed to station activities over the past year and that you have paid your membership fee for 2013 or are exempt.

Nomination forms are available from the station, can be emailed to you on request or downloaded by clicking on this link. If you would like to nominate yourself or a fellow volunteer to sit on Claremorris Community Radio’s Board of Directors, the form must be returned to the station no later that 4pm on Monday 24th of November.

If you have questions or if you need any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact Kevin Griffiths at the station on 094 9373737 or by email at

New show Fite Fuaite begins today

This afternoon at 5 p.m., CCR will broadcast the first show in a new series, Fite Fuaite.

Hosted by NUI Galway Media student Joyce Ní Chionnaith, it’s not your typical radio show. Fite Fuaite is an Irish language programme that mixes news on events around the country, the Irish speaking community and, of course, music and craic together. Joyce shows her love for Gaeilge whilst entertaining and enlighthening us all.

You can follow Joyce on Twitter @Joysayy to keep in contact with her or to be part of the show!

As well as being broadcast on Tuesday evenings, Fite Fuaite will also be repeated on Saturdays at 2 p.m.
