A message from James Preston President of Claremorris Lions Club.
“The Tree Appeal is run to highlight National Tree Week (21-27Mar) and raise funds to enable us support our partners, which include St. Vincent De Paul, Red Cross, Family Resource Centre, Men’s Shed, Dance Memory Club etc.”
“In normal circumstances Lions Club members sell Silver Birch Saplings for €5/each to the public at the entrances of Tesco & Supervalu during National Tree Week, but unfortunately this is not possible this year due to Covid.”
“This year we are selling the trees online through our GoFundMe page.”
“A special thanks to the tremendous response from St. Colman’s College & Mount St. Michael Secondary School and the Trustees of Racecourse Grounds and McMahon Park, the trees that we will sell online will now be planted in public places by the Students of both schools.”
“We believe that this project will have many benefits apart from the original intention of fundraising. Everyone can get involved in this project, either as a Student planting a tree, or like everyone else who can buy a tree.”
“The trees will be planted in public places that wouldn’t otherwise be planted, and the Students will learn about tree planting and the environment, and they and others will be able to admire/enjoy them in years to come.”
“Full details are on Claremorris & District Lions Club Facebook Page.“
