Community Response to Covid-19:

Like many other community programmes we faced many challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic and came up with new ways to support our groups, service users and the community in general.  The centre operated behind closed doors with staff available via phone and e-mail to deal with any queries and offer supports to anyone in need.

We set up a mobile emergency out of hours telephone service during the pandemic also.  We noticed an increase in people requesting information on mental health, domestic violence, alcohol misuse and income supports.

On a daily basis we put information and supports up on our social media page to inform people of all the relevant agencies and supports that people could avail of.  All of our programme activity went online such as group meetings via zoom, online art and craft summer camps, mother and baby group workshops, Irish Classes, IT training and Health and Nutrition etc.

We provided daily updates on our Facebook page to offer supports and information to the community on income supports, health and well-being, parenting programmes, bereavement supports etc.  We offered a printing service free of charge to the community and we set up a telephone service for our more vulnerable service users to make contact on a weekly basis to check in and make sure they were doing ok.

We also sent out activity packs to children in the community so they could make greeting cards to send to their family and friends.

Before Covid-19 we were providing food bags to service users approximately 20 people per week.  This rose to over 250 people during the pandemic.  We changed our multi-purpose room in the centre to a food bank to facilitate this service.  We received supports from the Co. Council, local agencies and NGO’s to purchase food and sanitary items to support the community through Covid-19.

During the cocooning period we delivered food boxes on a weekly basis to Older and vulnerable people.  New volunteers came on board to help out with this growing service.  The community of Claremorris really came together and supported each other during this very difficult time.  We liaised with local organisations to ensure that by working together anyone whom needed this service availed of it.

The New Normal

The centre re-opened to the public on Monday, June 29th and has all the HSE requirements for protection against Covid-19.  Unfortunately we are not in a position to facilitate groups as yet but we are continuing our telephone support service for the foreseeable future.   We will continue with our programme activity online so check out our Facebook for daily updates.

The centre is open to the public from 9:30am to 3pm and by telephone and e-mail from 9:30 to 5pm Monday to Friday.  Please wear a mask upon entering to protect you and protect us.
