Friday 15th November saw the launch of the third installment of ‘Clann Mhuiris’, the journal of the Claremorris Historical Society.
The publication was celebrated in Claremorris library, with broadcaster Michael Commins officially launching the book. The event was MC’d by CCR’s Pat Keane.
Bridie Sheeran and Roderick Maguire went along for the radio, and Bridie sent this recording of Pat, Michael, and the book’s editor Colmán Ó Raghallaigh speaking from the lectern.
This year’s edition of the journal features a host of interesting articles and many rare photographs with a special feature marking the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Jeremiah Higgins in Main Street in 1820.
Other topics include such diverse subjects as the Browne’s of Castle MacGarrett, the Ballinrobe Railway, Sweeney’s Travelling Shop, the history of Claremorris Met. Station, the life of Canon Ulick Bourke and the legendary Irish musician, Johnny Cleary of Castlegar.
