‘The Miami Showband Story’ – Playwright Martin Lynch Talks to Marty Flannery

In this special interview, Showband Legends presenter Marty Flannery talks to playwright Martin Lynch about ‘The Miami Showband Story’, which is coming soon to Castlebar and Galway.

In 1975, three members of the Miami Showband, including charismatic lead singer, Fran O’Toole, were murdered at a bogus Military checkpoint, when returning from a ballroom performance in Banbridge.

Told through the eyes of two best friends and Miami songwriters, Fran O’Toole and Des Lee, The Miami Showband Story weaves through the amazing roller coaster journey of the iconic showband, from the joyous dancehall days of the 1960s to the tragedy in 1975.

It is written by Martin Lynch and Marie Jones, who also wrote ‘Dancing Shoes – The George Best Story’.

Catch the show on August 30th in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, and the Town Hall Theatre, Galway, on 2nd September.

And don’t forget to listen to Showband Legends with Marty Flannery, on Saturdays at 14.00 and repeated Fridays at 11.00.
