Biodiversity loss has become a major political issue. Yet several Mayo county councillors were in the newspapers recently criticising a government decision to delay the hedgecutting season this year.
That decision was aimed at protecting biodiversity especially birds who nest in hedgerows.
Mark Godfrey travelled to the Dublin Horse Show earlier this month to meet Darren Ellis, a spokesperson for Birdwatch Ireland who was meeting the public at the show.
Mark asked why the ban is necessary and also asked about the health of our bird populations.
