99-year-old Paddy Connolly talks to Bridie Sheeran: Part 2

In the second installment of Bridie Sheeran’s conversation with Paddy Connolly, he reminisces about travelling shops, the diet of his youth, cutting turf and hay, superstitions around calving time, mourning traditions, arranged marriages, and the wonderful tilly lamp.

Paddy was a builder from a young age, and stayed in the trade all his life: “I had three houses built when I was 20,” he says. “I never was a day idle in my life, Bridie.”
