This Christmas week, you will have two chances to listen to A Pilgrimage to Avila, a new documentary created by our own Dr. Roderick Maguire. It will air at 12 noon today and again on St. Stephen’s Day at the same time.
Of the programme, Roderick tells us “As a participant in the Tuam Diocesan Pilgrimage to Avila in June 2014, it was suggested to me that I bring a portable recorder with me. That throw away remark lead directly to making a documentary about the pilgrimage. Now, after many months of sporadic work and with the help of Allan Tiernan, that program is ready for broadcast.”
“I think that listeners will enjoy the program, as it recreates the sounds of a part of Spain that tourists don’t often see. The pilgrimage was from 30th June to 5th July and visited sites associated with St Teresa of Avila, including Madrid, Avila, Alba de Tormes, Salamanca, Segovia and Toledo. In addition we visited The Valley of the Fallen, where Franco is buried, and the Bernabeu stadium – the home of Real Madrid.”
“I hope you enjoy listening to the program as much as I did making it.”
Update: the programme is now available on our mixcloud site.
