The Venerable Walter Fulgentius Jordan, an Augustinian Friar from Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, was murdered in 1649 whilst saying Mass.

Stories about the murder lived on in the locality, and in 1960 were investigated by Professor FX Martin, OSA, and Dr. George Maguire. An account of this tragedy was discovered in a book published in 1654 in Belgium.

Claremorris Community Radio has produced an exciting and vibrant account of the death of this almost forgotten martyr.
