Culture Day broadcasts

culture-nightAs part of Culture Day/Night on Friday, September 20th, Claremorris Community Radio will broadcast a series of documentaries produced by the station.

These special one-off day of documentaries starts at 11am and continues right through until 9pm.  The programmes being broadcast are:

  • 11am: Edward Delaney – A lasting impression
    Examining sculptor Edward Delaney’s fascinating life and taking a detailed look at his work and its place within society today.
  • 12 noon: From Bothar Garbh to Mount Street (part 1)
    Examining the history of one of Claremorris’s most important streets.
  • 1pm: From Bothar Garbh to Mount Street (part 2)
  • 2pm: Narcotics to Knock
    A documentary focusing on drug and addiction problems in rural Ireland.
  • 3pm: From the hanging fields to the learning fields
    A documentary about Claremont House and the dramatic transitions which it has witnessed over the years.
  • 4pm: Matchmaking in Lisdoonvarna
    A documentary about the famous matchmaking festival which takes place in the Clare town each September.
  • 5pm: The People’s Courts
    Documentary on the Dáil Courts which existed in Ireland from 1920-24.
  • 6pm: Race to Reform
    The story of Claremorris’s once-famous race course, its dereliction and conversion into an important facility for the community.
  • 7pm: The day the Pope came to Knock
    Telling the story of Pope John-Paul II’s visit to Knock in 1979
  • 8pm: Town Hall Story
    The story of the Town Hall in Claremorris.
